Three types of food that bile duct cancer patients should most avoid
There are three types of food that patients with bile duct cancer should particularly avoid: high-fat foods, spoiled or deteriorated foods, and pickled foods.
1. High-fat foods
Bile duct cancer can impair the digestive system's ability to digest and absorb nutrients, leading to reduced digestive function. Consuming high-fat foods increases the burden on the gastrointestinal tract, liver, and biliary system, intensifies irritation to the bile ducts, and may negatively affect treatment outcomes.
2. Spoiled or deteriorated foods
Foods left in high-temperature environments for extended periods are prone to bacterial overgrowth, resulting in spoilage. If patients accidentally consume such foods, it may increase irritation to the bile ducts and worsen symptoms such as abdominal pain and vomiting.
3. Pickled foods
Pickled foods contain large amounts of added salt during processing, which extends their shelf life. For patients with bile duct cancer, consuming these high-salt preserved foods may damage the affected areas of the bile ducts, increase local irritation, and exacerbate symptoms such as right upper abdominal pain and nausea caused by cancer flare-ups.
In addition, patients with bile duct cancer should also avoid spicy and irritating foods. Their diet should be light and easily digestible, ensuring balanced nutrition.
