When is the best season to eat persimmons?
There is no definitive best season for eating persimmons, but they are typically consumed in autumn.
Persimmons contain various nutrients such as carotene, riboflavin, vitamins, and fatty acids. They have the effect of moistening the lungs and promoting body fluid production. Moreover, persimmons are rich in dietary fiber, which can help relieve constipation. Once ingested, they can also promote the oxidation of ethanol in the bloodstream, thereby reducing the harmful effects of alcohol on the body. Persimmon trees usually flower from May to June and bear fruit from September to October. Since September to October falls within autumn—the season when the fruit ripens—persimmons are commonly eaten during this time.
When eating persimmons, avoid consuming them on an empty stomach, as they contain abundant persimmon tannins. These tannins may combine with gastric acid when ingested without food, potentially forming bezoars (persimmon stones) in the stomach.
