Can gastroparesis fail to recover?
Generally, gastroparesis can be recovered under normal circumstances.
Gastroparesis is usually a symptom that occurs after abdominal surgery involving partial or total removal of the stomach. Once it develops, it may last for several weeks or even longer; however, recovery is generally possible. Abdominal massage, increased fluid intake, and taking prokinetic medications as prescribed by a doctor can help promote recovery. In more severe cases, surgical intervention may be recommended by a physician to restore normal function.
Gastroparesis may cause symptoms such as fullness in the upper abdomen, tenderness, and succussion splash. Additionally, the lower abdomen may appear flat, accompanied by bowel sounds.
