Introduction
The growth duration of retroperitoneal tumors generally depends on whether the tumor is benign or malignant. Malignant stimuli such as long-term heavy alcohol consumption, frequent intake of pickled foods, or a history of trauma may lead to rapid tumor growth. Therefore, patients should undergo regular medical checkups at the hospital under a doctor's guidance, including abdominal ultrasound or abdominal CT scans, as well as blood tests.

Generally, how long a retroperitoneal tumor can grow depends on whether the tumor is benign or malignant.

1. Benign Tumors

If it is a low-grade malignant retroperitoneal tumor, its growth tends to be slow, potentially lasting five or even ten years. In some cases, such as congenital retroperitoneal tumors in children, the tumor may begin growing at birth and gradually enlarge with the child's physical development. Patients are advised to undergo regular physical examinations for early detection and timely treatment.

2. Malignant Tumors

If the retroperitoneal tumor is malignant, it may grow rapidly—sometimes increasing from two centimeters to four or five centimeters within three to six months. Therefore, the growth rate varies significantly depending on the nature of the tumor, though in most cases progression may take one to two years. Treatment for malignant tumors typically involves radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgical resection, or a combination of these, under a physician's guidance.

In addition, certain malignant stimuli—such as chronic heavy alcohol consumption, frequent intake of pickled foods, or a history of trauma—may accelerate tumor growth. Therefore, patients should regularly visit the hospital for medical checkups, including abdominal ultrasound or CT scans, blood tests, and tumor marker screenings, so that treatment can begin as early as possible in the course of the disease.
