Introduction
Absence of the ellipsoid zone is associated with fundus diseases such as retinitis, retinal detachment, and retinal vascular disorders. Retinitis results from retinal damage caused by pathogenic infection, leading to visual impairment. Retinal detachment occurs when part or all of the retina separates from its underlying tissue attachment. Retinal vascular occlusion, involving the retinal arteries or veins, is often caused by conditions such as hypertension and diabetes.

Absence of the ellipsoid zone may be associated with fundus diseases such as retinitis, retinal detachment, and retinal vascular disorders.

  1. Retinitis

Infection by pathogenic microorganisms can damage the retina, leading to retinitis and resulting in visual impairment.

  2. Retinal Detachment

Genetic factors, eye injuries, or conditions such as high myopia may cause part or all of the retina to separate from its underlying tissue, resulting in retinal detachment.

  3. Retinal Vascular Disease

Underlying conditions such as hypertension or diabetes may lead to blockage of retinal arteries or veins, causing retinal vascular disease.

Additionally, retinal tumors and other diseases may also be responsible. If ocular discomfort occurs, it is recommended to seek medical evaluation at a hospital to determine the exact cause.
