Is the purine content high in natto?
Natto generally has a relatively high purine content.
Foods with purine levels between 25–150 mg per 100 g are considered moderate in purine. Natto contains approximately 75 mg of purine per 100 g, placing it on the higher end of this range. Consuming large amounts of natto regularly may lead to abnormal uric acid metabolism, increase uric acid concentration, and elevate the risk of hyperuricemia and gout attacks. For patients already suffering from disorders related to uric acid metabolism, eating natto may worsen their condition or reduce treatment effectiveness.
Patients with normal uric acid levels can consume natto in moderation as part of their daily diet, which may help improve the intestinal microenvironment. However, individuals with elevated uric acid levels should generally limit or avoid consuming natto.
