Redness and discharge in the right eye
Bloodshot and red right eye with discharge may be caused by physiological factors or pathological factors, such as foreign body in the eye, allergic conjunctivitis, keratitis, etc.
I. Physiological Factors:
This may result from staying up late frequently or prolonged reading, or excessive use of electronic devices such as smartphones and computers, leading to eye strain. It is recommended to rest adequately and apply warm compresses to the eyes to relieve ocular fatigue.
II. Pathological Factors:
1. Foreign Body in the Eye: Small objects such as eyelashes or dust may enter the eye and cause irritation. The foreign body can be gently removed using a cotton swab moistened with cooled boiled water, or it should be safely extracted by a healthcare professional.
2. Allergic Conjunctivitis: If caused by allergic conjunctivitis, anti-allergy eye drops may be used under medical guidance. Commonly used medications include sodium cromoglicate eye drops, olopatadine hydrochloride eye drops, and azelastine hydrochloride eye drops to alleviate eye discomfort.
3. Keratitis: If caused by keratitis, antiviral medications may be prescribed by a doctor to control viral spread. Commonly used drugs include acyclovir eye drops, ganciclovir eye drops, and ganciclovir gel.
In addition, dacryocystitis could also be a possible cause. It is recommended to identify the underlying cause and follow medical advice for appropriate treatment.
