What should mothers pay attention to when weaning?
Mothers who are weaning generally need to pay attention to breast care, dietary adjustments, and reducing time spent with their child.
1. Breast Care
During weaning, since the baby is no longer nursing, mothers may experience breast engorgement. It's important during this period to avoid compressing the breasts or touching the nipples, as stimulation can trigger prolactin production and increase milk secretion.
2. Dietary Adjustments
Diet should be carefully adjusted during weaning. Avoid consuming soups such as crucian carp soup or pork rib soup, as these foods can promote milk production and hinder the process of stopping lactation. Instead, drinking barley tea in moderation can help reduce milk supply.
3. Reduce Time Spent with the Child
During weaning, it's advisable to minimize close contact with the child. Separating from the baby can prevent crying from emotionally affecting the mother, which might otherwise stimulate milk production. This separation also helps prevent the baby from developing excessive dependency, although complete separation from the mother should still be avoided.
In addition, mothers should remain patient throughout the weaning process and ensure that complementary foods are introduced to the child’s diet in small, frequent meals.
