Can people with high uric acid levels drink brandy?
Patients with high uric acid levels should not drink imported liquor (Western alcoholic beverages), as it may cause fluctuations in uric acid levels and trigger gout.
Elevated uric acid means the uric acid level exceeds the normal range. For men, the normal uric acid level ranges between 149–416 μmol/L, while for women it is 89–357 μmol/L. Uric acid levels above these values are considered high. Therefore, individuals with high uric acid should avoid consuming high-purine foods to prevent further increases in uric acid that could lead to gout. It is best to avoid drinking imported liquor when uric acid is elevated, because such liquors contain alcohol, which can increase blood uric acid levels. When blood uric acid exceeds the body's saturation point, uric acid crystals may form in muscles, bones, and other tissues, leading to gout attacks. Additionally, persistently elevated uric acid levels can damage the kidneys. Hence, individuals with high uric acid should not consume imported liquor.
Moreover, apart from avoiding alcohol, patients with high uric acid should also refrain from eating high-purine foods, such as animal offal, hot pot dishes, and rich broths.
