There is a hard lump inside the ear, resembling a scab.
Hard lumps resembling scabs inside the ear may be caused by conditions such as cerumen impaction, external otitis, or ear canal eczema.
1. Cerumen Impaction
This may occur due to overactive ceruminous glands producing excessive earwax, which accumulates on the ear canal wall over time and leads to blockage if not cleaned promptly. As directed by a physician, sodium bicarbonate ear drops can be used to soften the wax, after which a healthcare provider can remove it using a cerumen spoon or hook.
2. External Otitis
Bacterial infection may cause external otitis, resulting in significantly increased inflammatory secretions that form crusts adhering to the ear canal wall. Treatment may include prescribed ear drops such as levofloxacin, chloramphenicol hydrocortisone, or lomefloxacin hydrochloride ear drops.
3. Ear Canal Eczema
Ear canal eczema may result from exposure to allergens, causing itching or oozing of a clear yellowish fluid that subsequently forms crusts. Under medical guidance, topical treatments such as budesonide cream, mometasone furoate cream, or hydrocortisone butyrate cream may be used.
In addition, sebaceous cysts could also be a possible cause. It is recommended to seek timely medical evaluation to determine the underlying cause and receive appropriate treatment.
