Dietary considerations for patients with primary hypertension
Patients with primary hypertension should maintain a low-salt and low-fat diet, and avoid overeating.
1. Low-salt diet
Patients with primary hypertension should generally consume less food high in salt, such as kelp and pickled foods. Use less salt when cooking and eat more fresh vegetables and fruits.
2. Low-fat diet
Individuals with high blood pressure should avoid high-fat foods such as fatty meat, fried foods, and lard. Instead, consume more light foods like millet porridge and egg soup. Increase intake of foods rich in dietary fiber, such as mushrooms, spinach, and carrots, to help control fat consumption.
3. Avoid overeating
If blood pressure is consistently high, it's advisable to eat smaller meals more frequently throughout the day and avoid binge eating, which may lead to excessive energy intake, sustained elevation in blood pressure, and worsening of the condition.
In addition to the above precautions, patients should also avoid strong stimulants such as concentrated tea and coffee, which may excite the sympathetic nervous system and cause an increase in blood pressure.
