When having a chest X-ray, you need to remove your upper-body clothing, but you may keep your pants on.

If both front and side chest images are required, all upper-body clothes, including undergarments, must be removed. This is because clothing and underwear can obscure certain areas of the chest, affecting the doctor's ability to observe and diagnose properly.

When removing your upper-body clothing, take care to wear loose-fitting garments and avoid clothes with metal decorations or wearing bras. It's best to wear loose clothing that is easy to take off and put back on. Metal ornaments can interfere with X-ray transmission and degrade image quality, while bras may block parts of the chest, impairing the doctor’s evaluation.

In addition, avoid wearing jewelry such as necklaces and earrings during a chest X-ray, as these items can also interfere with X-ray imaging and affect picture quality. Before the procedure begins, the healthcare provider will check whether your attire meets the requirements and will promptly advise corrections if any issues are found. In summary, proper attire is important during a chest X-ray to ensure accurate diagnostic results.
