Introduction
Whether someone with high purine levels can drink coffee depends on individual circumstances. If purine levels are not very high and there are no symptoms, a small amount of coffee may be acceptable. However, if purine levels are significantly elevated or symptoms are present, coffee should generally be avoided. In addition, individuals with high purine levels should pay attention to their diet by consuming less high-purine food and avoiding organ meats, seafood, and spicy foods.

Whether individuals with high purine levels can drink coffee depends on individual circumstances. If purine levels are not extremely elevated and no discomfort is present, small amounts of coffee may be acceptable. However, if purine levels are significantly high or symptoms are present, it is generally advisable to avoid coffee.

  1. Drink in small amounts

Elevated purine levels in the body are usually caused by abnormal purine metabolism. When purines break down, they produce excess uric acid, which, if not properly excreted, can accumulate and form crystals in the body, leading to gout. If no other discomfort symptoms are present, drinking a small amount of coffee may be acceptable. Coffee has relatively low purine content—about 25 mg of purine per 100 grams. However, care should be taken not to add excessive sugar when consuming coffee.

  2. Avoid coffee

If obvious discomfort symptoms such as localized pain or swelling occur, coffee should generally be avoided. Caffeine can overstimulate the nervous system, potentially worsening these symptoms. Individuals with high purine levels should also pay attention to their diet by limiting foods high in purines.

In addition, people with high purine levels should avoid eating organ meats, seafood, and spicy foods.
