1. Can breast cancer patients eat fish?

Breast cancer is typically a malignant tumor caused by uncontrolled proliferation of breast epithelial tissue, possibly triggered by genetic factors, hormonal imbalances, and other causes. Fish is rich in protein, fat, vitamin A, vitamin D, and minerals such as potassium, phosphorus, and magnesium. Breast cancer patients can generally consume fish. Eating fish in moderation does not negatively affect the condition or interfere with treatment, and it helps provide essential nutrients needed by the body.

Due to impaired organ function caused by tumor cells, patients should avoid pickled, smoked, or fried fish, as excessive intake of salt and fat may increase the body's burden. Smoked fish may contain benzopyrene produced during processing, a carcinogenic substance that cannot be completely eliminated from the body.

2. Which types of fish should be avoided?

1. Grass Carp
Grass carp contains abundant nutrients including protein, calcium, phosphorus, iron, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin C, niacin, and vitamin E. However, grass carp is considered a cold-natured food. During chemotherapy, when the body is weak, consuming it may irritate the gastrointestinal tract, leading to symptoms such as abdominal pain and diarrhea.

2. Tuna
Tuna is rich in vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin B12, folic acid, niacin, and pantothenic acid. It has high nutritional value and may help prevent certain diseases. However, its flesh is relatively firm, and consumption during chemotherapy may affect treatment efficacy.

3. Pomfret
Pomfret is a type of sea fish rich in protein. For patients prone to allergies, it may trigger allergic conditions such as asthma or urticaria, and could potentially worsen breast cancer or accelerate the spread of cancer cells.

4. Crucian Carp
Crucian carp contains ample unsaturated fatty acids and amino acids. After consumption, it may easily stimulate the breast tissue and interfere with disease control in breast cancer patients.

5. Eel
Eel is typically a large deep-sea fish. Large fish occupy higher positions in the food chain and may accumulate more mercury. Long-term consumption of mercury-rich foods could negatively impact subsequent breast cancer treatments.

It is recommended that breast cancer patients maintain a positive mindset during illness and focus on a balanced diet. They should consume more fresh fruits and vegetables and avoid raw, cold, spicy, greasy, and other irritating foods. Smoking and alcohol consumption should be avoided. Any discomfort during treatment should be reported to a doctor immediately.
