Introduction
Using an abdominal binder after cesarean section can play a certain supportive role in recovery. The binder helps tighten the abdominal muscles, reduce pressure on the waist and abdomen, and minimize muscle laxity. Likewise, wearing an abdominal binder can alleviate postpartum spinal pain and help reshape the body. In addition, it may promote wound healing, prevent wound dehiscence, and reduce the risk of obesity.

In general, "caesarean section" refers to cesarean delivery. Abdominal binders can be used after cesarean section; however, if postoperative recovery is poor or there is local wound infection, their use is not recommended. The details are as follows:

1. Can be used

Using an abdominal binder after cesarean section can provide supportive benefits for recovery. An abdominal binder helps tighten the abdominal muscles, reduce pressure on the waist and abdomen, and minimize muscle laxity. Additionally, it may alleviate postpartum spinal pain and assist in body shaping. Furthermore, wearing an abdominal binder can promote wound healing, prevent wound dehiscence, and reduce the risk of obesity. Therefore, abdominal binders can be used after cesarean delivery. However, usage should begin under a doctor's guidance—typically around 1 to 2 weeks postpartum. It is important not to start too early, as premature use may exert pressure on the surgical site and impair normal wound healing. Daily use should also be limited to no more than 4 to 6 hours.

2. Should not be used

However, if a woman has poor physical health and develops pus-forming infections due to inadequate local wound care after cesarean surgery, an abdominal binder should not be used temporarily. Wearing a binder under such conditions may restrict airflow to the affected area and worsen the wound infection, posing risks to the mother’s health.

It is recommended to follow correct usage instructions and combine binder use with moderate exercise and a healthy diet to maximize effectiveness. If discomfort or pain occurs during use, the abdominal binder should be discontinued immediately.
