Introduction
If the diameter of a ureteral stone is less than 6 mm, surgery is generally not required. Patients can follow medical advice to take orally lithotriptic medications such as Shihpai Paiton granules or Nephrolithiasis Granules. If the ureteral stone is larger, with a diameter exceeding 6 mm, patients should go to a正规 hospital for procedures such as extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy or ureteroscopic lithotripsy.

Generally speaking, whether surgery is needed for ureteral stones depends on the size of the stone. If the diameter is less than 6 mm, surgery may not be necessary; however, if the stone is larger than 6 mm, surgical intervention may be required. The details are as follows:

1. Surgery Not Required

Most ureteral stones originate from kidney stones that have descended into the ureter, although a small number may develop primarily within the ureter itself. Common symptoms include pain and hematuria (blood in urine). If the ureteral stone is relatively small, with a diameter under 6 mm, conservative treatment is usually considered. Patients can take prescribed medications such as Shilipai Keli (Lithotriptic Granules) or Shenshitong Keli (Kidney Stone Pass Granules), which help expel stones. In daily life, patients should drink plenty of water to dilute urine, facilitating the passage of stones.

2. Surgery Required

If the ureteral stone is large, with a diameter exceeding 6 mm, conservative treatment may prove ineffective. In such cases, patients should visit a reputable hospital for procedures such as extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) or ureteroscopic lithotripsy.

In addition, patients should ensure adequate rest and avoid alcohol consumption. It is recommended that patients choose an appropriate treatment method under the guidance of a physician.
