Introduction
Dull abdominal pain three months after abortion may be caused by factors such as abdominal exposure to cold, onset of menstruation, intrauterine infection, pelvic inflammatory disease, or endometritis. Appropriate management should be based on the individual patient's condition. Abortion typically ends pregnancy prematurely through medication or surgery. After the procedure, the patient's uterus and vagina may sustain varying degrees of injury.

Generally, mild abdominal pain occurring three months after a miscarriage may be caused by factors such as cold exposure to the abdomen, menstrual onset, intrauterine infection, pelvic inflammatory disease, or endometritis. Appropriate management should be based on the individual patient's condition. Specific analyses are as follows:

1. Abdominal Cold Exposure

Miscarriage is typically performed either through medication or surgery to terminate pregnancy prematurely. After the procedure, the patient's uterus and vagina may sustain varying degrees of injury, leaving the body in a relatively weak state. If the abdomen is exposed to cold, it may trigger smooth muscle contraction and spasms, leading to mild abdominal pain three months after the miscarriage. Usually, no special treatment is required; applying a heating pad for warm compresses can help alleviate symptoms.

2. Menstrual Onset

During pregnancy, high levels of progesterone maintain relative stability of the endometrium, resulting in amenorrhea (absence of menstruation). Around three months after a miscarriage, hormone levels decline and menstruation generally returns to normal. Prior to the onset of menstruation, increased frequency of uterine contractions may also cause this symptom. It is recommended to keep the body warm during this period and avoid excessive fatigue.

3. Intrauterine Infection

If improper surgical techniques cause severe damage to the uterine cavity or leave behind residual embryonic tissue, the injured areas may become invaded by external bacteria after surgery. This can lead to an inflammatory response, local mucosal edema, and secretion of inflammatory substances, potentially causing intrauterine adhesions and resulting in the aforementioned symptoms. It is advisable to seek medical care at a hospital and consider laparoscopic surgery for treatment.

4. Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)

PID refers to infection or inflammation within the pelvic cavity. If left untreated or inadequately managed, the infection may persist in the body, causing pain or discomfort, particularly in the pelvic region. Under a doctor’s guidance, patients may use medications such as Gongxuening Capsules or Fuke Qianjin Tablets for treatment.

5. Endometritis

Endometritis is an infection or inflammation of the endometrium (the lining of the uterus). If endometritis develops, it may damage the endometrium and thereby affect fertility. Under medical supervision, patients may be treated with medications such as Cefoxitin Sodium for Injection or Ornidazole Dispersible Tablets.

If the pain persists or fails to improve, it is recommended to visit a hospital for evaluation without delay to prevent worsening of the condition.
