Purulent vaginal discharge after taking metronidazole
Metronidazole, also known as metronidazole tablets, may cause purulent vaginal discharge after administration due to ovulation, drug irritation, or incomplete recovery from the underlying condition. Specific analyses are as follows:
1. Ovulation period
Metronidazole tablets are commonly used to treat conditions such as trichomonal vaginitis and cervicitis. If purulent vaginal discharge occurs after taking metronidazole, it might be due to the ovulation phase, during which mature follicles are released through the vagina.
2. Drug irritation
The main active ingredient in metronidazole tablets is metronidazole. After ingestion, it may irritate the mucous membranes of the uterine cavity and vagina, leading to increased secretions and causing this symptom. However, this typically resolves spontaneously after discontinuation of the medication.
3. Incomplete recovery from illness
If the patient's condition has not fully recovered during treatment, inflammation may still persist in the mucosal tissues of the vagina and cervix, disrupting normal vaginal mucosal function and resulting in the aforementioned symptoms. In such cases, patients should follow medical advice and continue treatment with metronidazole tablets.
A light diet is recommended during medication.
