Introduction
Frequently waking up during sleep due to a pounding heartbeat may be caused by overexertion, hyperthyroidism, congenital heart disease, or other reasons. Treatment options include general management, medication, and surgery. Besides the above causes, it could also result from hypoglycemia, hypotension, heart failure, and similar conditions. During illness, adequate rest is essential, and diet should be rich in vitamins and protein.

Waking up frequently during sleep due to palpitations may be caused by overexertion, hyperthyroidism, congenital heart disease, or other reasons. Treatment options include general management, medication, or surgery. Specific analyses are as follows:

1. Overexertion

Overexertion can lead to physical fatigue, requiring the heart to contract more strongly to maintain normal blood circulation. This may result in increased and irregular heart rate, potentially disrupting sleep. Adequate rest and avoiding excessive fatigue are recommended.

2. Hyperthyroidism

Hyperthyroidism is a condition characterized by excessive production of thyroid hormones. Elevated thyroid hormone levels can accelerate heart rate, causing the heart to contract more forcefully to meet the body's increased metabolic demands, which may lead to awakening from sleep. Patients may take medications such as methimazole tablets or propylthiouracil tablets under medical supervision to alleviate symptoms.

3. Congenital Heart Disease

Congenital heart disease can cause structural and functional abnormalities in the heart, leading to symptoms such as rapid heartbeat and shortness of breath. When discomfort occurs in the heart area, the heart may need to increase its contractions to maintain normal circulation, resulting in sudden awakening during sleep. Treatments may include procedures such as transcatheter closure of patent ductus arteriosus or surgical ligation.

In addition to the above causes, palpitations during sleep could also result from hypoglycemia, hypotension, heart failure, or other conditions. Sufficient rest is important during illness, and the diet should be rich in vitamins and high-quality protein, such as milk and fish, to provide necessary nutrients and support recovery.
