Introduction
In general, pain in the left ear and left pharynx may be caused by conditions such as tonsillitis, pharyngitis, or otitis media. Besides these three causes, it could also result from pharyngeal injury, pharyngotonsillitis, or novel coronavirus infection. It is recommended that patients seek medical attention promptly and receive treatment under the guidance of a physician to achieve early recovery.

Generally, pain in the left ear and left side of the throat may be caused by conditions such as tonsillitis, pharyngitis, or otitis media. A detailed analysis is as follows:

1. Tonsillitis

Tonsillitis is a localized inflammatory condition occurring in the mucosa of the tonsils, which may cause throat pain that radiates to the ear. Patients should rest in bed as much as possible, get adequate sleep, and avoid overexertion or staying up late. They should drink sufficient fluids and avoid spicy or irritating foods. Additionally, medications such as Xigua Shuang Lozenges (Watermelon Frost) or ibuprofen capsules may be used under medical guidance.

2. Pharyngitis

Pharyngitis is primarily caused by bacterial infections, excessive smoking or alcohol consumption, or irritation from dust and harmful gases, leading to local congestion and inflammation of the pharyngeal mucosa, which may result in the aforementioned symptoms. Patients should avoid spicy and irritating foods, engage in moderate exercise, and enhance their immune system. Medications such as amoxicillin dispersible tablets or cefaclor dispersible tablets may be taken according to medical advice.

3. Otitis Media

Otitis media is an inflammation occurring in the middle ear, which may cause ear pain. If the inflammation spreads to the pharynx, it may also lead to throat pain. Patients should consume nutritionally rich and varied foods, maintain adequate hydration, and avoid high-fat, high-sugar, high-salt, and hard-to-chew foods. Alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited. Under a doctor's supervision, patients may use medications such as enteric-coated erythromycin tablets or cefuroxime axetil granules for treatment.

In addition to the three causes mentioned above, similar symptoms may also arise from throat injury, peritonsillar abscess, or novel coronavirus infection. It is recommended that patients seek timely medical evaluation and receive appropriate treatment under professional guidance to promote early recovery.
