How to treat pain from orchitis
Generally, orchitis is an inflammatory condition of the testicles, often accompanied by pain and discomfort. Treatment options include rest, wearing loose-fitting underwear, cold compresses, medication, and surgical intervention. Specific approaches are as follows:
1. Rest
When experiencing testicular pain due to orchitis, adequate rest is essential. Avoid strenuous exercise or physical activity to reduce pressure on the testicles and alleviate pain.
2. Wear Loose Underwear
During an episode of orchitis, wearing loose-fitting underwear can minimize pressure and friction on the testicles, helping to relieve pain and discomfort. It is recommended to choose breathable cotton underwear and avoid synthetic materials.
3. Cold Compress
An ice pack or a cold, damp towel can be gently applied to the affected testicular area for about 15–20 minutes at a time, repeated several times. This helps reduce inflammation and pain.
4. Medication
If symptoms are severe, medications such as ibuprofen tablets or acetaminophen tablets may be used under medical supervision to help relieve symptoms.
5. Surgery
In cases of acute orchitis, surgical treatment may be necessary under a doctor’s guidance. For instance, if an abscess has formed in the testicle, incision and drainage are required. In severe cases involving significant testicular atrophy or tissue destruction, surgical removal of the affected testicle (orchiectomy) may be performed.
During treatment, maintaining good personal hygiene, avoiding excessive fatigue, and staying away from excessively hot or humid environments are beneficial for recovery.
