Male nipple pain
There are various causes of nipple pain in men, which may include trauma, nipple eczema, sebaceous cysts, mammary gland hyperplasia, and mastitis. Treatment should be directed according to the specific underlying cause.
1. Trauma
When a man's nipple area suffers external impact, soft tissue contusion may occur, leading to bruising and pain. If symptoms are mild, special treatment is usually unnecessary. Applying warm compresses appropriately can help relieve bruising and discomfort. When needed, under medical guidance, medications that promote blood circulation and relieve pain—such as Huoxue Zhitong Capsules, Dahuoluo Capsules, or Hualuo Zhitong Pills—may be used to alleviate symptoms.
2. Nipple Eczema
Prolonged exposure to hot environments can lead to excessive sweating in the chest area. Combined with scratching or other irritants, this may result in eczema of the nipple region, causing symptoms such as stinging and itching. Under medical supervision, topical application of mild corticosteroid creams—such as Triamcinolone Acetonide and Econazole Cream, Hydrocortisone Butyrate Cream, or Halometasone Cream—can help relieve symptoms.
3. Sebaceous Cyst
Poor hygiene may block the sebaceous gland ducts around the nipple, resulting in sebaceous cysts. These cysts can irritate surrounding tissues, causing swelling and pain. Medical advice typically recommends surgical removal of the cyst.
4. Mammary Gland Hyperplasia
Hormonal imbalance may disrupt the normal development and regression process of breast tissue, leading to mammary gland hyperplasia. This condition may cause discomfort or pain around the breast area and result in lumps or nodules. Although more common in women, some men may also develop this condition. Under medical supervision, medications that help resolve lumps and reduce breast pain—such as Rubei Xiao Tablets, Xiaojin Pills, or Xiaoyao Powder—may be used to improve symptoms.
5. Mastitis (Nipple Inflammation)
Inflammation of the nipple may result from external irritation or hormonal imbalances, leading to redness, swelling, and pain. Although women are at higher risk, men can also develop mastitis. Under a doctor’s guidance, antibiotic treatments—such as Erythromycin Ointment, Penicillin V Potassium Tablets, or Roxithromycin Capsules—may be prescribed to eliminate infection and support recovery.
If any of the above conditions occur, prompt medical evaluation is recommended to identify the cause and initiate appropriate treatment to prevent further complications.
