Introduction
In general, excessive flatulence refers to frequent gas passage. Increased frequency of排气 (gas passage) and bowel movements after taking traditional Chinese medicine may be caused by factors such as the medication irritating the intestines, increasing gastric juice secretion, regulating intestinal flora, promoting water excretion, or indigestion. Certain herbal ingredients, such as mirabilite (mang xiao) and cannabis seed (huo ma ren), have a stimulating effect on the intestines and may increase intestinal motility and the frequency of gas passage.

Generally speaking, excessive flatulence refers to frequent排气 (gas passage). Increased frequency of gas passage and bowel movements after taking traditional Chinese medicine may be caused by drug-induced intestinal stimulation, increased gastric juice secretion, regulation of intestinal flora, increased water excretion, or indigestion. The specific causes are analyzed as follows:

1. Drug Stimulation of the Intestines

Certain herbal ingredients, such as mirabilite (Mang Xiao) and hemp seed (Huo Ma Ren), have a stimulating effect on the intestines. They may increase intestinal motility and the frequency of gas passage, while also promoting bowel movements. Symptoms usually subside after discontinuing the medication.

2. Drug-Induced Increase in Gastric Juice Secretion

Some components in traditional Chinese medicine may stimulate increased gastric juice secretion. When gastric secretion increases, it may lead to feelings of bloating and increased flatulence. Under medical guidance, medications such as esomeprazole magnesium enteric-coated tablets or rabeprazole sodium enteric-coated tablets can be used for treatment.

3. Drug Regulation of Intestinal Flora

Some ingredients in traditional Chinese medicine may affect intestinal microbiota. When gut flora becomes imbalanced, the production and expulsion of intestinal gas may increase, resulting in excessive and frequent flatulence. Probiotic medications such as lactasin tablets or Bacillus subtilis bivalent live bacterial granules may be used under medical supervision.

4. Drug-Induced Increase in Water Excretion

Certain traditional Chinese medicines may have diuretic effects, promoting the elimination of excess fluid from the body. Increased urination may consequently lead to more frequent bowel movements. If no discomfort is present, treatment is generally not required.

5. Indigestion

If a patient already has underlying indigestion, this may also cause frequent gastrointestinal gas passage and increased bowel movements. It is recommended to consume more fruits, vegetables, and millet porridge, which may help alleviate symptoms. Additionally, medications such as Jianwei Xiaoshi tablets or domperidone tablets may be used under medical guidance.

If a patient experiences severe symptoms of frequent gas passage and increased bowel movements, prompt medical consultation is advised to avoid delayed diagnosis and treatment. Maintain healthy lifestyle habits, and avoid spicy or irritating foods that may hinder recovery.
