Correct first aid methods for drowning
Generally, if timely treatment is not administered after drowning, it may endanger life. The correct emergency method after drowning is cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The specific steps are as follows:
1. Check whether the drowning victim is conscious and breathing. If there is no breathing, immediately unbutton the victim's clothes and loosen the collar, open the mouth, pull out the tongue, and remove foreign objects such as mud, weeds, or debris from the mouth and nose to ensure an open airway.
2. Hold the victim around the waist and abdomen, position their back upward and head downward, to help drain water from the stomach.
3. Lay the victim flat on the ground. Use one hand to pinch the victim’s nostrils closed, and use the other hand to support the jaw, then perform mouth-to-mouth rescue breaths.
4. After giving two rescue breaths, place the left fingers interlaced over the right hand with arms straight, and use your upper body weight to press down at the center of the line connecting the two nipples.
5. Perform 30 chest compressions followed by 2 rescue breaths. Repeat this cycle four times before checking for pulse and breathing.
If, after performing the above procedures, the victim still shows no normal pulse or breathing, call 120 immediately for medical assistance to avoid delays in treatment that could harm health or lead to unforeseen consequences.
