External hemorrhoids refer to hemorrhoids that develop outside the anal canal. In general, external hemorrhoidal masses can be treated through warm sitz baths, dietary adjustments, topical medications, sclerotherapy, or surgical intervention. Medications commonly used include Compound Carrageenan Suppositories, Compound Carrageenan Cream, Huaijiao Pills, Huazhi Tablets, and Zhi Kang Tablets, all of which should be used under medical supervision. Detailed analysis is as follows:
I. Treatment
1. Warm Sitz Baths: Warm sitz baths are an effective method for relieving symptoms of external hemorrhoidal masses by soaking the anal area in warm water. This helps reduce swelling, alleviate pain, and promote healing. It is recommended to perform sitz baths for 15–20 minutes daily.
2. Dietary Modifications: Patients should increase their intake of dietary fiber by consuming more fresh vegetables and fruits, while avoiding spicy foods such as chili peppers and Sichuan pepper. Adequate fluid intake should also be maintained.
3. Topical Medications: Topical agents such as AnTong Ointment, Yunnan Baiyao Hemorrhoid Ointment, and Ma Yinglong Musk Hemorrhoid Ointment can help relieve swelling and discomfort caused by external hemorrhoidal masses. These should be used under a doctor's guidance.
4. Sclerotherapy: This treatment involves injecting a sclerosing agent directly into the external hemorrhoidal mass to induce shrinkage and resolution of the hemorrhoidal tissue.

Huaijiao Pills: A traditional Chinese medicine formulation containing stir-fried Sophora japonica fruit (Huaijiao), carbonized Polygonum multiflorum root (Diyu), Scutellaria baicalensis (Huangqin), and other ingredients. It is used to treat painful, swollen external hemorrhoids and can alleviate associated symptoms.
4. Huazhi Tablets: Composed of Aurantium fructus (Zhike), Sophora japonica flower buds (Huaimi), Rubia cordifolia (Qiancao), Sparganium stoloniferum (Sanleng), and Panax notoginseng (Sanqi), these tablets are suitable for treating internal, external, and mixed hemorrhoids. They help stop bleeding and promote blood circulation to resolve blood stasis.
5. Zhi Kang Tablets: These tablets have functions of clearing heat, cooling the blood, and promoting bowel movements. They are effective in treating anal swelling, pain, rectal bleeding, and sensation of heaviness caused by external hemorrhoids.
