Can you have sex one month after getting an IUD?
In general, "wearing a ring" refers to the placement of an intrauterine device (IUD), a commonly used long-term contraceptive method among women of childbearing age. Usually, one month after IUD insertion, sexual intercourse may or may not be permitted depending on individual circumstances. Specific situations are analyzed as follows:
1. Permitted
If the patient is in good physical condition, the cervix has healed well, there is no secondary infection after the procedure, and there is no vaginal bleeding or other discomfort, sexual intercourse may be resumed one month after IUD insertion.
2. Not permitted
If the patient is in poor health and the cervix has not fully recovered, sexual intercourse could lead to IUD displacement, malposition, expulsion, unintended pregnancy, or gynecological inflammation. In such cases, sexual intercourse should be avoided.
After IUD insertion, patients should get adequate rest, avoid overexertion and staying up late, drink plenty of water, maintain a light diet, and avoid smoking, alcohol, and spicy foods. If any discomfort occurs, patients should seek medical attention promptly and receive standardized treatment under a doctor's guidance, which will help promote recovery.
