Introduction
In general, individuals undergoing dialysis can maintain a normal marital and sexual life. Dialysis, whether hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis, is a form of renal replacement therapy used to treat end-stage chronic kidney failure. The primary goal of dialysis is to remove toxins and excess fluid from the body, keeping toxin levels at a relatively low level. Although uremia may adversely affect patients' gonadal function, leading to decreased libido.

In general, marital life refers to sexual activity, and individuals undergoing dialysis can engage in sexual intercourse.

Whether hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis, both are forms of renal replacement therapy used to treat end-stage chronic kidney failure. The primary goal of dialysis is to remove toxins and excess fluid from the body, maintaining low levels of toxins. After dialysis, if patients are in good physical condition with stable symptoms and show no signs of heart failure—such as chest tightness, shortness of breath, or low blood pressure—they may appropriately resume sexual activity. However, because dialysis patients generally have weakened immune systems, excessive sexual activity may further reduce resistance and increase the risk of infections. Therefore, patients should maintain a moderate frequency of sexual activity.

Dialysis patients should pay attention to daily self-care and management, including appropriate exercise, avoiding infections, quitting smoking and alcohol, and adhering to a diet that is low in salt, low in fat, and contains high-quality, low-protein foods.
