Can proteinuria 1+ develop into uremia?

If trace proteinuria (1+) is caused by factors such as intense physical activity, emotional stress, or fever, it generally does not progress to uremia. However, if trace proteinuria (1+) is due to chronic kidney diseases such as glomerulonephritis, diabetic nephropathy, or hypertensive nephropathy, and remains untreated, it may impair kidney function and potentially progress to uremia. If any discomfort symptoms occur, prompt medical attention is recommended.

Under normal circumstances, a urine protein level of 1+ indicates that the protein content in the urine exceeds 150 mg/24h during routine urinalysis. Whether a urine protein level of 1+ may progress to uremia depends on its underlying cause. Transient urine protein 1+ caused by intense physical activity, stress, fever, or similar factors usually does not lead to uremia. However, persistent urine protein 1+ due to chronic kidney diseases may progress to uremia.

If urine protein 1+ is caused by intense exercise, emotional stress, fever, or similar temporary factors, it generally will not develop into uremia. In such cases, the elevated protein level is a transient phenomenon due to temporary conditions and typically resolves on its own without causing harm to the body.

If urine protein 1+ results from chronic kidney diseases such as glomerulonephritis, diabetic nephropathy, or hypertensive nephropathy, and remains untreated, it may impair kidney function and potentially progress to uremia. In these cases, ongoing kidney damage leads to a gradual decline in renal function, manifesting as persistent urine protein 1+. Without timely intervention and management, this condition may eventually trigger uremia.
