Can eggplant and bitter melon be eaten together?
Under normal circumstances, eggplant and bitter melon can be eaten together.
Bitter melon contains various nutrients such as vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin K, and minerals, while eggplant is rich in dietary fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K, and carbohydrates. Consuming them together not only helps reduce the bitterness of bitter melon but also allows intake of multiple nutrients, offering benefits such as clearing heat, reducing internal fire, and protecting the heart and blood vessels—making this combination particularly suitable for summer consumption.
However, special circumstances exist. For instance, individuals with a constitution prone to coldness or those with weak spleen and stomach function may experience increased gastrointestinal burden if they consume excessive amounts of these cooling foods, potentially leading to discomforts such as diarrhea and abdominal pain.
In addition, due to its cool nature, excessive consumption of bitter melon may easily irritate the digestive tract. Therefore, people with weak digestive systems, pregnant women, and similar groups should eat little or avoid bitter melon altogether.
