There is generally no such thing as "the fastest way to reduce swelling from a sprained ankle." After a foot sprain, swelling can usually be reduced through methods such as ice application, heat application, compression bandaging, elevating the affected limb, and medication.

1. Ice application: Usually performed within 24-48 hours after the sprain, ice application causes local blood vessels to constrict, decreases vascular permeability, reduces blood exudation and tissue fluid production, thereby alleviating swelling and pain.

2. Heat application: After 48 hours from the ankle sprain, when the swelling becomes more stable, heat application can be started. It improves local blood circulation, accelerates tissue metabolism, and promotes the absorption of accumulated blood and tissue fluid at the injured site, thus helping to reduce swelling.

3. Compression bandaging: Applying appropriate pressure to the injured area can reduce local blood and tissue fluid exudation and prevent further worsening of the swelling.

4. Elevating the affected limb: Elevate the injured limb above the level of the heart to utilize gravity to promote blood and lymphatic fluid return, reducing blood accumulation at the injury site and thus alleviating swelling.

5. Medication: After 24 hours from the ankle sprain, topical medications with effects of reducing swelling and pain and promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis can be used under a doctor's guidance, such as Yunnan Baiyao Spray or Tung油 (Honghua oil). Gently massage the affected area after applying or spraying the medication to enhance drug absorption.

After a foot sprain, avoid overexertion and strenuous activities. It is recommended to perform appropriate rehabilitation exercises under a doctor's guidance, such as ankle flexion, extension, and rotation. Gradually resume normal activities once the pain and swelling subside.
