How to treat foot calluses (corns) to achieve complete removal
Generally, foot corns can be effectively treated and removed through methods such as corn plasters, salicylic acid ointment, cryotherapy, laser therapy, or corn excision.
1. Corn plaster: The main ingredients of corn plasters include salicylic acid and phenol, which are corrosive. They help soften and dissolve the thickened skin of the corn, allowing it to gradually peel off.
2. Salicylic acid ointment: Salicylic acid has keratolytic properties that loosen the connections between skin cells, enabling the gradual shedding of the outer skin layer.
3. Cryotherapy: This method uses freezing agents such as liquid nitrogen to create extremely low temperatures. The water inside the corn tissue cells freezes into ice crystals, damaging and killing the cells, thereby removing the corn.
4. Laser therapy: Using the thermal effect of laser energy, the high temperature instantly vaporizes and carbonizes the corn tissue, effectively removing it.
5. Corn excision: Under local anesthesia, the doctor makes an elliptical incision along the edge of the corn, completely removes the corn tissue, and then sutures the wound. During the procedure, care should be taken to minimize damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
During corn treatment, it is advisable to wear appropriate footwear, avoiding shoes that are too tight, stiff, or small. Reducing pressure and friction on the feet and maintaining foot comfort and breathability can help prevent corn recurrence.
