Why is the female genital area so itchy, and what should be done?
Generally, when a girl experiences itching "down there," it mainly refers to an itching sensation in the female external genitalia, around the entrance of the internal genitalia, and inside the vagina. This may be caused by poor local hygiene, allergic reactions, trichomonas vaginitis, cervicitis, pubic lice infection, and other reasons. Symptoms can be relieved through general treatments, medication, and other treatment methods.
1. Poor local hygiene: The skin of the external genital area has many folds. If proper cleaning is not maintained, sweat, urine, vaginal discharge, and other debris can accumulate, leading to bacterial and fungal growth, which may cause itching. It is recommended to keep the external genital area clean, wash with warm water daily, and rinse from front to back to avoid transferring bacteria from the anal area to the vagina.
2. Allergic reaction: The skin of the female external genital area is relatively sensitive and may develop an allergic reaction upon contact with allergens, resulting in symptoms such as itching and swelling of the external genital skin. Avoid further contact with the allergen. It is recommended to use medications such as loratadine tablets or hydrocortisone ointment under a doctor's guidance to relieve itching.
3. Trichomonas vaginitis: Transmitted through sexual contact, trichomonads grow and multiply in the vagina, altering the normal vaginal environment, causing increased vaginal discharge, which irritates the external genitalia and causes itching. It is recommended to take medications such as metronidazole tablets or tinidazole capsules under a doctor's guidance for treatment.
4. Cervicitis: In an inflamed state, the cervix produces increased secretions, which flow onto the external genital skin, causing irritation and itching. It is recommended to use medications such as ceftriaxone sodium for injection or spectinomycin hydrochloride for injection under a doctor's guidance for treatment.
5. Pubic lice infection: Pubic lice mainly parasitize the hair of the external genital and anal areas, feeding on human blood to survive. Their movement and egg-laying process can cause severe itching in the external genital area. First, remove the pubic hair by shaving and burn it to eliminate the parasitic environment. Then, use medications such as lindane cream or sulfur borax cream under a doctor's guidance to kill the lice and their eggs.
When experiencing itching in the genital area, scratching should be avoided to prevent skin damage and worsening infection. During treatment, maintain a light diet and reduce the intake of spicy and greasy foods to aid in recovery.
