Introduction
In general, the treatment methods for burns and scalds include rinsing with cool water to reduce temperature, soaking to cool down, covering the wound, applying medications, and seeking medical attention. Immediately after a burn or scald, the affected area should be rinsed under running cold water to lower the local temperature and minimize further thermal damage. However, the water flow should be moderate to avoid causing secondary injury from excessive force.

Generally, the management of burns and scalds includes running cold water over the affected area to reduce temperature, soaking to cool down, covering the wound, applying medication, seeking medical treatment, etc. If discomfort occurs, it is recommended to promptly go to the hospital for standardized treatment under a doctor's guidance. Detailed analysis is as follows:

1. Rinse with cold water to reduce temperature

Immediately after a burn or scald, rinse the affected area with running cold water to lower the local temperature and reduce further thermal damage. However, the water flow should be moderate to avoid secondary injury caused by strong pressure.

2. Soak to cool down

If the burn or scald covers a large area and cannot be rinsed, the affected area can be soaked in cold water for 15-30 minutes continuously to fully cool it down.

4. Cover the wound

The wound can be gently covered with clean gauze or a towel to prevent contamination and friction. If no suitable covering is available, plastic wrap may be used temporarily as an alternative, but care should be taken to avoid direct contact between the plastic wrap and the wound.

4. Medication treatment

For mild burns or scalds, after cooling and cleaning the wound with disinfection, topical medications such as moist burn ointment, erythromycin ointment, or Jingwanhong ointment may be applied as directed by a physician to relieve inflammation and pain and promote wound healing. For severe burns or scalds, applying medication by oneself should be avoided to prevent worsening of the wound and the risk of infection.

5. Seek medical treatment

For severe burns or scalds, such as extensive burns, deep burns, or those accompanied by other serious symptoms, call for emergency medical assistance and go to the hospital immediately. Before seeking medical help, try to keep the patient's airway clear to avoid suffocation.

During the wound healing process, it is important to keep the wound clean and dry to prevent infection. Scald wounds require regular dressing changes and following medical advice for proper wound care.
