Introduction
Under normal circumstances, rock sugar and pear can be prepared in various ways, such as wolfberry rock sugar pear, chuanbei rock sugar pear soup, steamed pear, yiren chuanbei rock sugar pear paste, and red date tangerine peel wolfberry rock sugar pear, which can help relieve coughing and expel phlegm. Although rock sugar pear offers good adjunctive effects for relieving cough and expelling phlegm, it cannot completely replace medication.

Generally, rock sugar and pear can be prepared in various ways to help relieve coughing and expel phlegm, such as with goji berries (Lycium barbarum), Sichuan fritillary (Fritillaria cirrhosa), steaming, coix seed, Chinese date (Ziziphus jujuba), tangerine peel, and goji berries. Specific methods are as follows:

1. Rock Sugar Pear with Goji Berries: Prepare two pears, wash them, remove the cores, and cut into pieces. Add an appropriate amount of rock sugar and a small handful of goji berries into a teapot or small soup pot, along with an appropriate amount of water. Boil for 15 minutes, then let it sit briefly before drinking. This preparation helps nourish the yin and moisten the lungs, enhancing cough relief.

2. Rock Sugar Pear Soup with Sichuan Fritillary: Wash the pears, peel and cut them into pieces, then place them into a clay pot. Add an appropriate amount of water, rock sugar, and Sichuan fritillary. Simmer over low heat for more than 30 minutes until the pears are tender. Turn off the heat and consume when warm. It is effective for coughs caused by lung heat or phlegm-heat.

3. Steamed Pear Method: Remove the core from the pear while keeping its overall shape intact. Place rock sugar into the cavity where the core was, and steam over low heat in a steamer for 20–30 minutes. Consume when warm. This method helps moisten the lungs, relieve coughing, and expel phlegm.

4. Coix Seed, Sichuan Fritillary, Rock Sugar, and Pear Puree: Peel and core the pear, then cut it into small pieces. Add rock sugar, coix seed, a small amount of Sichuan fritillary, and an appropriate amount of water. Steam for 20 minutes, then blend into a puree using a food processor. This puree can effectively relieve coughing and phlegm symptoms.

5. Rock Sugar Pear with Chinese Date, Tangerine Peel, and Goji Berries: Wash the pears, peel and cut them into pieces. Add an appropriate amount of rock sugar, Chinese dates, tangerine peel, goji berries, and purified water. Steam over water for about 30 minutes. This preparation nourishes the yin, moistens the lungs, removes phlegm, and relieves coughing, making it suitable for those experiencing coughing or throat discomfort.

Although rock sugar pear offers good adjunctive effects for cough relief and phlegm reduction, it cannot fully replace medication. Diabetic patients or individuals with cough caused by wind-cold should consume rock sugar pear cautiously.
