How to consume Hongguoshen (a type of herb or medicinal plant)
Generally, red fruit ginseng (RFG) can be consumed fresh, or processed into juice, jam, dried fruit, and fruit wine. The details are as follows:
1. Fresh Consumption
Harvested fresh RFG should be thoroughly rinsed with clean water to remove surface dirt and impurities, and then eaten directly to preserve its original flavor and nutritional content.
2. Juice Preparation
Wash the fresh RFG and remove the seeds. Place into a juicer, and add an appropriate amount of purified water or honey according to personal taste. Turn on the juicer to extract the juice, filter out the residue, and then drink.
3. Jam Preparation
Take an appropriate amount of RFG, wash, remove the seeds, and chop finely. Place into a pot, add an equal quantity of white sugar and a small amount of lemon juice. Cook over low heat slowly until the fruit pulp becomes thick and the jam reaches the desired consistency.
4. Dried Fruit Preparation
Select fresh RFG, wash and remove the seeds. Blanch in boiling water containing an appropriate amount of white sugar for several minutes, then remove and place into a drying oven or dry under the sun until the surface becomes dry and wrinkled, producing dried fruit.
5. Fruit Wine Preparation
Wash the RFG thoroughly, dry naturally, and remove the seeds. Place into a clean glass bottle, add an appropriate amount of rock sugar, pour in white spirit, seal the bottle tightly, and store in a cool, dark place. The fruit wine will be ready for consumption after soaking for 1–3 months.
Consumption methods can be selected according to individual needs and taste preferences.
