Introduction
In general, whether rabies causes leg soreness or pain depends on the stage of the disease. In the early stages, leg discomfort is usually not obvious and symptoms mainly involve irritation at the site of exposure. However, during the progressive phase, as the virus invades the nervous system, leg soreness or pain may occur, which requires immediate medical attention. It is important to maintain awareness of prevention, avoid contact with stray animals, and take protective measures when interacting with pets.

In general, whether rabies causes leg soreness or pain depends on the stage of the disease. In the early stages, leg soreness is usually not obvious and symptoms primarily involve discomfort at the site of exposure; however, during the progressive phase, as the virus invades the nervous system, leg pain or soreness may occur, which requires immediate medical attention.

In the early phase of rabies, symptoms are mostly localized to the area bitten or scratched by an animal, such as numbness, itching, or stabbing pain. Some individuals may experience mild fever, headache, and fatigue, while leg soreness is relatively uncommon at this stage. Even in the absence of leg pain, anyone with a history of animal exposure should immediately clean the wound and receive rabies vaccination.

As the disease progresses and the virus spreads to the central nervous system, it affects overall nerve function and may lead to leg soreness. This is often accompanied by classic symptoms such as hydrophobia (fear of water), aversion to wind, and spasms of the throat muscles. At this point, the condition is extremely critical and urgent treatment at a professional medical facility is essential.

It is important to enhance preventive awareness in daily life—avoid contact with stray animals and take protective measures when interacting with pets. If scratched or bitten by an animal, immediately wash the wound thoroughly with soap and running water alternately for at least 15 minutes, disinfect with iodine tincture, and promptly receive the rabies vaccine.
