Clear, sticky nasal discharge may be caused by environmental irritation, early-stage cold due to exposure to cold, allergic rhinitis, viral rhinitis, or nasopharyngitis. Symptoms can be improved by avoiding irritants, keeping warm, and medical treatment. If symptoms persist for more than one week or are accompanied by worsening nasal congestion or headache, prompt medical attention is necessary.

1. Environmental irritation: Inhaling dust, cold air, or irritating gases can stimulate the nasal mucosa, increasing secretion and resulting in clear, sticky nasal discharge, often accompanied by nasal itching. It is recommended to avoid irritating environments, wear a mask outdoors, and use saline nasal rinses to relieve discomfort.

2. Early-stage cold due to exposure to cold: After the body is exposed to cold, viruses may invade the respiratory tract, causing nasal mucosal congestion and swelling, leading to increased secretions that appear clear and sticky. This may be accompanied by mild nasal congestion and sore throat. It is advised to stay warm, drink plenty of warm water, ensure adequate rest, and avoid fatigue to promote recovery.

3. Allergic rhinitis: Upon exposure to allergens such as pollen or house dust mites, the nasal mucosa undergoes an allergic reaction, producing large amounts of clear, sticky nasal discharge, along with sneezing and nasal itching. Patients may use medications such as mometasone furoate nasal spray, loratadine syrup, or montelukast sodium chewable tablets under medical guidance to alleviate symptoms.

4. Viral rhinitis: Nasal inflammation caused by viral infection leads to abnormally increased nasal secretions, appearing clear and sticky, accompanied by nasal congestion and reduced sense of smell. It is recommended to use medications such as ribavirin granules, physiological seawater nasal spray, or Tongqiao Biyan granules under a doctor's supervision to relieve symptoms.

5. Nasopharyngitis: Viral or bacterial infection in the nasopharynx causes inflammation, increasing secretions that drain backward into the nasal cavity, forming clear, sticky nasal discharge, often accompanied by a foreign body sensation in the nasopharynx. Patients may follow medical advice to use medications such as cefaclor dry suspension, Pudilan anti-inflammatory oral liquid, or oxymetazoline hydrochloride nasal drops to improve symptoms.

Maintain indoor ventilation and appropriate humidity, change clothes and bedding frequently to reduce allergens, eat a light diet rich in fruits and vegetables, drink plenty of water, and engage in moderate exercise to strengthen physical health and reduce the occurrence of respiratory discomfort.
