Introduction
Clinical Manifestations: Patients often experience worsening of diabetic symptoms, such as dry mouth, polydipsia, and polyuria. Additionally, gastrointestinal symptoms—including nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea—may occur. In severe cases, electrolyte imbalances may develop, potentially leading to neurological manifestations.

Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is one of the more common acute complications of diabetes. Clinically, patients often experience worsening of typical diabetic symptoms—such as dry mouth, polydipsia, and polyuria—along with gastrointestinal manifestations including nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. In severe cases, electrolyte imbalances may occur, potentially leading to neurological symptoms reflecting cerebral involvement.

If left untreated, DKA may progress to life-threatening complications and even death. Clinically, it is characterized by hyperglycemia, decreased serum bicarbonate (or reduced CO2 combining power), and systemic metabolic acidosis—a profoundly acidic internal environment.Management requires prompt hospitalization in an endocrinology department, given the severity of the condition. Initial treatment focuses on aggressive fluid resuscitation and intravenous insulin therapy, along with correction of electrolyte abnormalities and close monitoring.
