Introduction
1. Antibiotics: Adequate and timely administration of antibiotics effectively controls infection, preventing acute sinusitis from progressing to chronic sinusitis or causing related complications. 2. Topical medications: Intranasal decongestants—such as 1% ephedrine—effectively relieve nasal congestion and promote sinus drainage. 3. Mucolytic and mucokinetic agents—such as Sinusitis Oral Liquid and Jingluo Tong—enhance ciliary motility within the sinuses, facilitating the clearance of sinus secretions.

Inflammation affecting one or more of the paranasal sinuses is termed sinusitis. The sinuses involved may include the maxillary, ethmoid, frontal, and sphenoid sinuses. Sinusitis is a relatively common condition in the general population and significantly impacts patients’ quality of life. So, what should you do if diagnosed with sinusitis? Below, we address this question.

What to Do If Diagnosed with Sinusitis

Sinusitis is one of the most common nasal disorders. Prompt and active treatment is essential upon diagnosis to prevent serious complications involving the eyes or intracranial structures. Currently, pharmacotherapy remains the primary treatment modality. Commonly used medications include:

1. Antibiotics: Adequate dosage and timely administration are critical for controlling infection and preventing progression from acute to chronic sinusitis or development of related complications. If the causative pathogen is identified, a targeted, pathogen-sensitive antibiotic should be selected. In cases where the pathogen remains unidentified, broad-spectrum antibiotics—such as penicillins or cephalosporins—are commonly prescribed in clinical practice.

2. Topical medications: Nasal decongestants (e.g., 1% ephedrine) effectively relieve nasal congestion and promote sinus drainage. Intranasal corticosteroids—such as triamcinolone acetonide or budesonide—help reduce nasal mucosal swelling and inflammation.

3. Mucolytic and mucokinetic agents: Oral formulations—including Sinusitis Oral Liquid and Jingluo Tong—enhance ciliary motility within the sinuses, facilitating clearance of accumulated secretions. Untreated or inadequately treated acute sinusitis may progress to chronic sinusitis. When medical management fails, endoscopic sinus surgery becomes necessary for chronic sinusitis.

The above outlines key management strategies for sinusitis. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
