Introduction
Estrogen plays an irreplaceable and profound role—no other hormone can substitute for it. Since estrogen is critically important throughout a woman’s life, it continuously influences all women. However, factors such as an unbalanced diet and irregular lifestyle habits may often lead to elevated estrogen levels in the body. So, what are the causes of high estrogen?

The profound physiological effects of estrogen cannot be replicated by any other hormone. Since estrogen plays a vital role throughout a woman’s life, it continuously influences all women. However, factors such as an unbalanced diet and irregular lifestyle habits may frequently lead to elevated estrogen levels in the body. So, what causes high estrogen levels?

Causes of Elevated Estrogen Levels

1. Increased estrogen levels in women result from multiple factors, primarily changes in diet and lifestyle. Women experiencing abnormally rapid or delayed menstruation are at higher risk for breast cancer. Many young girls today consume foods and health supplements containing exogenous hormones; thus, as puberty approaches, their breasts may undergo accelerated stimulation by estrogen.

2. Obesity is also a major contributing factor to increased breast cancer incidence. Excess body fat can disrupt endocrine balance, leading to elevated estrogen levels and consequently raising the risk of developing breast cancer.

3. Modern women face mounting pressures from work and daily life. Chronic stress may trigger emotional disturbances—including low mood, depression, anger, irritability, fear, and anxiety—which severely impair appetite, sleep quality, and immune function, and may even exacerbate exposure to environmental toxins and pollutants.

4. Non-specific elevations in estrogen may occur in conditions such as hyperthyroidism or liver cirrhosis, or due to increased sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG). Additionally, excessive intake of estrogen-containing health supplements may also induce estrogen excess.

Young women naturally have relatively high estrogen levels; with appropriate dietary habits and adequate sleep, they typically do not require hormonal supplements. Women with elevated estrogen levels should exercise caution when using cosmetic and beauty products.
