Introduction
Treatment strategies for post-stroke sequelae vary depending on the underlying cause; however, the overarching treatment principles and goals remain the same: to maximize functional recovery and prevent recurrence. Patients should also strictly manage their diet, avoiding spicy and irritating foods—particularly those that are highly pungent. Such foods can not only exacerbate brain tissue damage but also increase the risk of recurrence of post-stroke sequelae.

The causes of post-stroke sequelae are diverse, and the condition poses significant health risks. Prompt treatment is essential for individuals suffering from post-stroke sequelae. So, what are the treatment options?

Treatment Approaches for Post-Stroke Sequelae

Although treatment strategies vary depending on the underlying cause, the overarching therapeutic principles and goals remain consistent: to maximize functional recovery and prevent recurrence. Specific treatment approaches include:

1. For post-stroke sequelae caused by atherosclerosis, antiplatelet therapy is the mainstay of pharmacological treatment. Representative agents include aspirin, clopidogrel, cilostazol, and dipyridamole.

2. For post-stroke sequelae resulting from cardioembolic stroke, anticoagulation therapy is indicated. Rivaroxaban is a representative anticoagulant.

3. For sequelae following hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage, aggressive management of hypertension and other risk factors is critical. Commonly used antihypertensive agents include amlodipine, nifedipine, telmisartan, irbesartan, enalapril, and diuretics.

4. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapies may include acupuncture and herbal formulas aimed at promoting blood circulation and resolving stasis.

Patients should also strictly manage their diet—avoiding spicy and irritating foods, especially those that are highly pungent. Such foods not only exacerbate brain tissue damage but also increase the risk of recurrence. Regular hydration and physical activity are encouraged to enhance immune function and facilitate recovery.
