What should I do if my electrocardiogram (ECG) shows a slow heart rate?
Disease description:
Sometimes, I feel palpitations, and my electrocardiogram (ECG) shows a heart rate of only about 50 beats per minute. What should I do about this slow heart rate on ECG?
A heart rate of 50 beats per minute is somewhat slow. However, some individuals naturally have bradycardia, while in others it may result from underlying cardiac conditions—such as coronary artery disease with myocardial ischemia or atrioventricular conduction block—both of which can cause a slow heart rate. It is recommended that you visit the Department of Cardiology at a hospital for further evaluation. Relevant diagnostic tests—including complete blood count, electrocardiogram (ECG), chest X-ray, echocardiography, carotid artery ultrasound, and 24-hour Holter monitoring—should be performed to establish a definitive diagnosis and guide appropriate treatment.
