What medications are used for hypertension combined with gout?
Disease description:
I am a patient with hypertension. Recently, for unknown reasons, I developed gout. I would like to know which medications are appropriate for managing concurrent hypertension and gout.
In cases of hypertension complicated by gout, active oral antihypertensive therapy is required. For such patients, antihypertensive agents that do not affect serum uric acid levels are recommended; captopril may be used orally for this purpose. Additionally, patients should drink ample plain water and strictly avoid medications containing the diuretic hydrochlorothiazide. The severity of gout must also be carefully assessed. Increased water intake and oral uric acid–lowering medications are advised.
