What are the symptoms of trachoma?
Disease description:
I’ve been feeling uncomfortable in my eyes for the past couple of days—my eyes feel sore and gritty, and there’s also noticeable redness and swelling in certain areas. I’m worried it might be trachoma. What are the symptoms of trachoma?
Symptoms of trachoma vary depending on the disease stage. During the acute phase, patients may experience conjunctival hyperemia, lacrimation, eyelid edema, and ocular pain. In contrast, during the chronic and cicatricial stages, symptoms such as dry eyes and a foreign-body sensation predominate. When trachoma coexists with other ophthalmic conditions—such as chronic dacryocystitis—additional ocular symptoms may develop.
