What Are the Symptoms of Trachoma?

Trachoma may cause symptoms such as ocular pain and lacrimation. During the acute phase, patients may present with conjunctival injection, mucopurulent discharge, and preauricular lymphadenopathy. In the chronic phase, conjunctival hyperemia and conjunctival thickening occur—particularly prominent in the upper tarsal and fornical conjunctiva—and severe follicles may undergo necrosis; healing results in conspicuous scarring.
