Disease description:

Today at work, I heard from my colleagues that the girl sitting next to me has trachoma and has gone to the hospital. I’m a bit worried about being infected myself, so I’d like to ask: What are the symptoms of trachoma?

Trachoma typically presents with symptoms such as redness of the eyes, photophobia, and excessive tearing. As trachoma progresses to the chronic, quiescent stage, conjunctival hyperemia and swelling subside, but a hazy appearance develops on the cornea due to corneal vascularization (pannus), which compromises corneal transparency and may lead to dry eyes. Early detection and treatment of trachoma are essential for effectively controlling the disease and preventing complications.
