Can a man with teratozoospermia conceive naturally?
Disease description:
My husband has teratozoospermia. May I ask whether natural conception is possible with teratozoospermia?
The natural pregnancy rate in teratozoospermia is relatively low, yet pregnancy remains possible. Teratozoospermia manifests as necrospermia (dead sperm), macrocephalic sperm (abnormally large-headed sperm), and acephalic or tailless sperm. Macrocephalic sperm may disrupt the enzymatic processes required for fertilization, while tailless sperm typically lack motility and thus struggle to reach the fallopian tubes for union with the oocyte. Most cases of teratozoospermia are associated with markedly reduced fertility; even if conception occurs, the risk of genetic disorders in the offspring is significantly elevated.
