Why Does the Chest Feel Swollen and Painful?
Disease description:
I’ve been feeling very down these past few days, and my chest has been continuously sore and tender—I even avoid touching it when dressing. I’m not sure what’s causing this, so I’d like to ask: Why is my chest sore and tender?
A common cause of chest distension and pain is mammary gland hyperplasia, which is typically influenced by fluctuations in the body’s endocrine hormone levels—particularly elevated progesterone or estrogen levels. These hormone levels peak just before menstruation, leading to secondary congestion and edema of the mammary acini, thereby causing chest distension and pain. Symptoms usually improve significantly after menstruation ends. Additionally, chest distension and pain may occur following external trauma or impact from heavy objects. Therefore, if such symptoms arise, it is advisable to seek medical evaluation at a hospital for appropriate diagnostic testing and targeted treatment.
