I’ve noticed my mother’s memory seems to be declining over the past couple of days—she forgets things she’s just said moments later. My wife suspects she might have Alzheimer’s disease. What are the early warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease?

Dr. Li Qi
Alzheimer’s disease—commonly referred to as senile dementia—is primarily caused by neurodegenerative changes in the nervous system. These changes lead to neuronal cell death and subsequent brain damage, resulting in cognitive decline, including memory loss and impaired judgment. As the disease progresses, it may cause cerebral atrophy, leading to behavioral disturbances such as forgetfulness, incoherent speech, disorientation, and progressive aphasia.
