Can patients with gout eat peanuts?
Disease description:
My father used to enjoy eating peanuts with alcohol, but after being diagnosed with gout, he has significantly reduced his alcohol intake and stopped eating peanuts altogether. I’d like to ask: Can patients with gout eat peanuts?
Patients with gout may consume peanuts, which are classified as a moderate-purine food. During periods of stable disease, patients may consume small amounts of peanuts appropriately. However, besides potentially affecting serum uric acid levels, peanuts may also influence blood lipid levels; therefore, excessive consumption is not recommended for gout patients.
Gout patients can safely consume a variety of fresh vegetables and fruits, milk, and eggs. For other moderate-purine foods—such as common meat products and soy-based foods—gout patients should limit their intake. High-purine foods—including organ meats (e.g., liver, kidney) and shellfish—must be avoided entirely.
Additionally, gout patients should maintain adequate hydration, drinking at least 2,000 mL of water daily to facilitate the excretion of uric acid from the body.
